What started out as a good month for reggae performer Buju Banton has suddenly gone down hill. The singer, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, is being held in a Miami federal prison on a drug charge with intent to distribute. Buju Banton was arrested on Thursday for possessing over five kilograms of cocaine. (That's over 11 pounds of blow.) He could face up to 20 years in prison.
As mentioned, December started out on a high for Buju Banton, and not just because of the drugs. The reggae singer was nominated for a Grammy for his album, "Rasta Got Soul". Not everyone his celebrating his nomination though. The gay community is speaking out against it because of his homophobic lyrics from an earlier song in his career, "Boom Bye Bye" in which he advocates violence against gay men. In the past, Buju Banton was charged for playing a role in an assault against a group of gay men. Those charges were dropped. Perhaps his most recent arrest is a way of karma coming back to get him.
