Could it be? Has the Tiger and Elin woods scandal has really begun to fade from the media cycle? Wasn't it great? We were all a-tizzy with sexy ladies and shock and awe. We had something to talk about (besides health care, or pretend global warming, bleh). What a great time.
And now, that's passed, I think it's time to look at it with some of the wisdom that can come only weathered hindsight.
First, a note: I could care less who Tiger Woods has an affair with, be they black, white, male, female or animal. But, even with that, I'll propose a hypothesis by paraphrasing the great, black comedian of our time, D.L. Hughley (on Access Hollywood some nights ago): "This would not be that big a deal if Tiger were married to a black woman and cheating with black women."
Now, certainly certainly certainly, there are other factors. Tiger's squeaky clean persona, the boring nature of golf, the fact that his wife is super hot, all reasons why this should be a blip on the social radar. But such a large blip? Could it be that this scandal has been magnified by some deep-seeded, inadvertent shade of racism that still lingers in the mainstream (white) media?
Of course it is.
But, I'm interested in your thoughts. Do you agree?
