Conan O'Brien Refuses to Follow Jay Leno: The Tonight Show vs. The Jay Leno Show

Conan O'Brien apparently refuses to follow Jay Leno and do you blame him? Conan O'Brien made a statement Tuesday afternoon, January 12, 2010. He will not host “The Tonight Show” if it gets moved to 12:05 AM. Conan O'Brien took over as host of The Tonight Show” seven months ago.

NBC moved Jay Leno to prime time show in September and it didn't take off. “The Jay Leno Show” at 10 PM will be aired the last time on February 11. Just two days ago, NBC formally outlined their plan to move “The Jay Leno Show” to 11:35 in March. Seems Conan doesn't approve of the plan.

According to the New York Times, Conan O'Brien stated, “I sincerely believe that delaying the ‘Tonight Show’ into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. ‘The Tonight Show’ at 12:05 simply isn’t the ‘Tonight Show.’”

Former hosts of “The Tonight Show” include Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and of course, Jay Leno. It seems FOX is interested in a late night show starring Conan O'Brien if he can get out of his contract with NBC.

In my honest not so humble opinion, the Tonight show lost its class when Johnny Carson left it. I've never been a fan of Leno, and rarely watch the show anymore....but then it just seems to ba a liberal show like Letterman where the left can poke at the right.

I think the Tonight show should just be let go, Jay Leno should do whatever he does, and I think Conan O' Brian is worse than Leno.

I agree that The Tonight Show went south FAST when Johnny left.
I don't care much for Conan at all.
And ever since the number of 'night shows' ballooned, the quality has stunk even more, on all of them.

Let me see, "Haiti is in ruins, lives have been lost, and they have NO food or water". Nope, I guess this nonsense with Jay and Conan really doesn't matter in the scheme of things. Multi-millionaires with more money to spend then the rest of us, I could care less folks. Just goes to show what's important to 'some of us'. Conan ought to get off his high horse and do one of two things in my opinion only (and yes, I do understand it's the principal of thing, but when has that ever stopped us), leave if he really feels lead to do so and go where you can get more money (but he'd better remember what's on the line at that new station as well), or stay and keep his job because there are many who's lost theirs and their homes too. Enough whining already.

I haven't watch The Tonight Show with Conan hosting but he is not my favorite show host. It does not seem fair to ask him to move because the new time slot for Leno did not work out. HH
