Tonight is Critics Choice Movie Awards night in Hollywood. A relatively small event in a relatively big venue (the Hollywood Palladium), star of stage and screen Kristin Chenoweth takes on the role of host as the triple-threat entertainer welcomes big names like Sandra Bullock and Quentin Tarantino.
But it's the venue that initially has the viewers attention at the start of this VH1 program, airing tonight at 9 p.m. PT.
An Art Deco treasure done in the streamlined modern style, this venerable establishment was totally restored in 2008 thanks to efforts by multi-talented Jay-Z. Today, the beautiful Hollywood Palladium -- sitting on the spot of the original Paramount Studios -- gives a lot of zing to any occasion, with its cylindrical period embellishments and glam stage in the round.
Cool fact: Frank Sinatra was the first to play the Palladium on Halloween night in 1940.
And now it's Kirstin Chenoweth's turn.
A true trooper (remember this talent in Wicked?) who is currently working on her role as Tinkerbell, the performer's mom had some choice words to say when she heard that her daughter was hosting the H1N1 awards.
Says Chenoweth, "My mother said, 'I read online that you're hosting the H1N1 Awards'. And I said ... first of all, it's not the Swine Flu Awards. It's ON VH1.
"She's like, 'Do we get that?'
"'You GET it!'"
And so will we, very soon on VH1. More details on this cool Hollywood award show in my next report.
