Tyra Banks America's Next Top Model is a Teen Plus Sized Competition
Finally, a teen modeling competition that supports real girls. At least that is what Tyra Bank's is attempting with this season of America's Next Top Model. Tyra made waves when she announced this season's contest on her daytime talk show on Monday. This season is going to be featuring plus-sized teen models.
Requirements? The teens must wear a dress size between 12 to 20 and must be between 5'9" to 6'1" tall. That's it.
Tyra's goal has always been about expanding the concept of what is considered beautiful. She told US Magazine, "I've always felt it was my mission to expand the narrow perceptions of beauty...I challenge industry and universal standards by featuring and celebrating non-traditional beauty, and stressing that true beauty is both inside and out."
Plus-sized should not be a negative word. It is simply another form of gorgeous! You go Tyra...more power to you. It will be great to see a modeling competition with girls who are not stick thin. The fact that they are all real teens competing sends a great message to the average teenager who watches the show. It says, you are beautiful too!
Finalists will appear on the March 2 episode of Tyra, and the winner of the Fiercely Real Teen Model Search will be announced the next day. The winner will get a one-year modeling contract and a spread in a glamourous fashion magazine.
