President Obama and House GOP leaders met to narrow the gap between this administration and Republicans. It was promising, but it was immediately evident that the divide is greater than the promise in Baltimore. The meeting was cordial, and GOP leaders expressed gratitude at the president's willingness to meet with the GOP caucus. President Obama answered tough questions with his Obama words, "Let me clear." Then, went on to blame the republicans for not being bi-partisian.
Republicans complained the White House has ignored their ideas, and locked them out of policy making decisions.
President Obama said, "Both sides can take some blame for a sour climate on Capitol Hill. So, at least they're talking, but the meeting held little hope as of this meeting for a meeting of the minds, but as of this meeting the gap between the White House, and Obama is too great.

So it may have appeared differently to you Chuck as well as to others, it's always a matter of perception, based on our own beliefs and life values.
I do compliment him on going there. Its not much after a year of saying do it my way or else but it's a start.
Linda...are you saying that they should disagree with everything, regardless then? So we don't lose? You should be thrilled with the GOP then. You do know how absurd that sounds, I trust. And it's not a matter of perception. The GOP set out to be civil and make him look like a fool and he handed it back to them in spades. That's the facts. I mean...it's rare to see what MUST be thought of a spineless Democrats grow a backbone and DO something...so I'm giving him credit where it's due. How much do you think George "Bring it ON!" Bush would have done with 60 GOP Senators? He would have rammed everything down our throats. President Obama and the Dems. could have done that too...but failed to act. He tried to be "Bipartisan"...with a group that have only ONE goal...to see him fail.
"Intellectuals and the Erasmus Complex could have been the alternate title of Sowells book.
The knowitallism of Obama is shocking beyond the wholly insignificant word, contempt.
Obama has contempt for all who fail to prostrate themselves before his towering wisdom.
"How dare you not grovel before my profound intellect. I graduated from Harvard Law."
We were better off with a C student from Yale than this elitist Harvard know-it-all.
But then, we don't know what grades Obama received, because he hasn't released them."
In 1996 Obama was just a Professor of Constitutional Law in the University of Chicago Law school.
Why would Buckley even mention a law professor?
Think about your LIES before you speak, we check for falsehoods!!!
I want as much negotiation on TV as possible! if anyone wants to filibuster allow them to.....show it all!
putting america first? really?
There has to be a candidate, some place in this country, that has the the moral's to try and turn this country back around, that is not corrupt and will not be bought off, who will stand up and fight for our freedom, our liberty and our justice, who can end this war, (with a win) figure out a way to get industry to invest in there states, there future, to make jobs to put people back to work, make our borders secure, it is frightening when you know your own government is working toward goals that this country does not believe in, were not built on.
obama may meet with the Repulican's but he will never agree to any suggestions they have.
We all wanted change but not to this extreme or this direction.
Obama has all the qualities you describe. Since we have 2 wars, I don't know which one you're referring to. I believe that Obama will put a damper if not end terrorism. Let's look at what he did about the pirates. He gave the order to shoot. Three shots and 3 kills. He just a no none sense kind of guy. He not like the other President who let Bin Laden leave the country and not give an order to take him out when told he was within our sight.
Obama told us example after example where he has accepted Republican suggestions during the meeting this week. CNN has the full story.
Oh, and buy the way, Obama is also introducing a jobs bill to put people back to work. Let's encourage our elected officials to get behind this bill so that people can get back to work.
I am sorry but I can't think of one good thing obama has done to help this country so far, the tax breaks, oh people will pay for them in the end.
We must remember it was not only Bush that had bin laden in his sights, it was first clinton that could have taken him, he had multiple chances also.
Which example's did he except Jo Ann that the Republican's suggested?
Can you explain which jobs the common person will be able to just go get once this job bill he is introducing is introduced? He can talk until he is blue in the face, if there are no jobs there are no jobs, because he introduces a bill does not make a job appear, without having places hiring, a job bill is pretty useless, you can not demand a business put people to work if there are no jobs for them, (we have no new business' opening, and the little man is run out of business every day).
It is just like obama saying he was going to double the exports, double nothing and it is still nothing.
They looked incompetent. America got to hear what was really going on behind the scenes. And we all now know that the GOP has been more of a problem than any solution to the problems facing the American people.
Just as the "Birther" talk has diminished, any talk of the President being able to speak in public without a teleprompter can now be buried.
Even his adversaries must admit that the President handled himself in a professional, intellectual and effective manner.
I especially liked him listening and pointing out their empty rhetoric. For example, they said he didn't accept any of their proposals. He gave them specific proposals he has accepted. Then pointed out, we won't accept a proposal of a tax break for someone making a billion dollars. "I don't think Warren Buffett should get a tax break."
I also like him letting them make their talking points and recognizing them as such. For example when they said he had increased the deficit. He painsakingly pointed out that the debt was aat 1.3 trillion when he took office and said "You aren't saying that I caused that - are you? Then he said you paid for a war that wasn't in the budget that pushed the debt up to 8 trillion. You aren't saying this is my fault - are you."
They were exposed for being the obstructionist that they really are.
America got a good look at the opposition and it left a bad taste in their mouths.
