A movie based on the life story of shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton will star Carrie Underwood in her first film role, according to People magazine. Hamilton's left arm was bitten off by a tiger shark in October 2003 when she was just 13-years-old.
Underwood will play Sarah Hill, a youth counselor at Hamilton's church. Other cast members include Anna Sophia Robb as Hamilton, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt as Hamilton's parents, and Jack Nicholson’s daughter Lorraine as Hamilton's best friend Alana Blanchard. Filming on the movie began earlier this week on Oahu's North Shore.
Hamilton continued surfing after recovering from the shark attack. Three weeks after losing her arm, she began surfing again with a custom-made board that was longer and slightly thicker which made it easier to paddle. She now surfs competitively with a traditional board.
