If you have kept up with New York City at all these last few days, it is probably to follow the weather and the blizzard like conditions hitting the city. However, there is now another reason to put your attention on the city, especially if you like fashion. Today is the first day of fashion week in New York City. Some have braved the weather to make it into the city for the events, shows and parties to happen in the days ahead.
However, they have all received sad news this morning with the announcement of the death of designer Alexander McQueen. This shocking news has hit fashion world hard, as many have taken to Twitter to discuss his death. The designer was found dead in his London home early Thursday, and his death was apparently at his own hand. Suicide has not yet been confirmed as the cause of death by his family, but others have stated this to be the case. At 40, the man had spent much of the last two decades bringing controversy with his lines.
His latest line was set to be presented today at Milk Studios at 3pm, but that presentation has now been canceled. The designer apparently had his own demons, and his mother's passing on February 2nd is said to have devastated the man. Some are even connecting his suicide to the suicide of his mentor Isabella Blow. His representative released the following statement earlier today.
“On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family. â€
