Whitney Houston’s distasteful performance in Australia left many fans disgruntled. The evening news played some clips from her performance; surely, the once world-renowned, chart-topping “diva” sounded horribly off-key and oblivious to her lack of performance. Several fans, or should I say ex-fans, judging by the disgusted looks on their faces, exclaimed that it was the “worst concert I’ve ever been to in my life.” Another fan who left before the concert even ended mused that Whitney Houston “couldn’t entertain a dead rat.” Ouch.
I’m sure many fans (as well as myself) who have not heard the performance are in disbelief, and wondering happened to the woman with strong, passionate vocal ability? Too much crack, or too much Bobby Brown? A couple of months ago, when I watched her “come-back” performance on Oprah, I too wondered what became of this once powerful vocalist who couldn’t even hit half the notes she hit in songs such as “I will always love you” and “I have nothing.” The song she chose for the Oprah episode exhibited nothing close to the caliber of her 90’s songs. As a child of the 90’s and fan of Houston’s, I am deeply, deeply disappointed in what is left of Whitney’s voice. I continue to entertain the hope that we’ll inevitably see the “old” Whitney resurface.
