My 2010 Oscar Night Predictions

 

Ah look at the time, Oscar night once again. Where did the time go? Well it was an exciting year of movies, with many of them trying their hand at being the best picture. I mean seriously when was the last time we had this many nominees for best picture. Like any good critic, It’s my job to post my prediction for the Oscars this year. I won’t go into all the categories but instead, here are some high lights.

Best Picture: “Inglorious Basterds.” This is more of a wish than a prediction. This is the closest that Tarentino has come to producing an Oscar movie. I’d like to see him win, but at the same time, something tells me that the academy won’t fail to recognize the box office breaking epic that was Avatar. Still, here’s to the Bastards.

Best Actor: Morgan Freeman in “Invictus.” His performance as Nelson Mandela made the movie. It would be a shame to not see that kind of a performance awarded. He will be a hard opponent to take on, as the only possible winner I see could be George Clooney for “Up in the Air.”

Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz in “Inglorious Basterds.” Waltz has a resume that shows hard work and dedication to the screen. His performance in Inglorious Basterds was out of now where and fantastic. It would be nice to see some of that work be recognized. But again I don’t give out the awards, just report on them.

Actress: Meryl Streep in ”Julia & Julia.” This woman has 16 Oscar nominations and only 2 wins. Here’s another individual that deserves it on the merits of only hard work and determination. That’s without even looking at how flawless her interpretation of legendary cook Julia Child was. Despite this little set of praise, the fact is that the award will more than likely go to Gabourey Sidibe for “Precious.”

Supporting Actress-Mo’Nique in “Precious.” This is one of the categories that is a dead lock this year. Seriously, her performance in precious was so powerful there is little competition at all. It’s a sure thing.

Director-James Cameron for “Avatar.” Cameron put a lot of hard effort into Avatar and it shows. It took him ten years, so it should so for something. Luckily the box office breaking amount that the film brought in is proof that it was worth it.

Animated-Up. The second lock of the night. Anyone who wants to argue just needs to go watch the first 5 minute montage at the beginning and try not crying. If you do then you are one of the few who didn’t.
