Among this year's 82nd Academy Awards winners were Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Kathryn Bigelow and "The Hurt Locker". In fact, Hurt Locker took home six golden Oscar statues in 2010, besting any other film of the past year. James Cameron's Avatar won several awards as well, mainly in the special effects and visual aspects of film. Cameron's ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow won the battle of the exes as she picked up Best Director for Hurt Locker. She was backstage just moments after accepting her award, the first time a female director had won, when Hurt Locker was announced as Best Picture. Bigelow seemed out of breath and to be hyperventilating when she claimed the second big prize. Cast and crew assembled on stage to celebrate at the close of the show.
Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock each won their first ever Oscar award for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively. Bullock now has the distinction of also winning a Razzie award earlier this past year for another film, giving her the credit of being called Worst and Best Actress in the same year. Meanwhile, Jeff Bridges had his first ever nomination in 1971 as a supporting actor, but lost. He was nominated a total of five times during his nearly four decade career, and with his performance in "Crazy Heart" he finally has an Oscar statue to his credit.
In the supporting roles, Mo'Nique won Supporting Actress for "Precious" and Christoph Waltz won Supporting Actor for "Inglorious Basterds". Other winners on the night included "Star Trek" for best makeup, "Up" for best animated film, and "Logorama" for best short animated film.
The Oscars even had a Kanye West type moment when it came time for the Music by Prudence acceptance speech (see video). The film had won for Best documentary short and director Roger Ross Williams quickly rushed to the stage to accept the award. His feuding female producer Elinor Burkett came up on stage to burst into the acceptance speech that was making. She began to talk over him to get her points across, and according to reports had been blocked from going on stage by the director's mother. Burkett cut off Williams during his talk saying "The man never lets the woman talk. Isn't that just the classic thing?"  Only at the Oscars, but it's doubtful this will overshadow the Kanye-Swift MTV VMA incident.
