Miley Cyrus performed at Sunday’s MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada, in an outfit* that will definitely have people talking. She wore a shiny black mesh skin-baring pseudo-lingerie bodysuit, which instead of reaching its fully scandalous potential, was covered with black belted short-shorts. Confusing the message of the look were her late-80’s gold earrings, Nike wristbands, and white bandana, tied around her head. Her male back-up dancers appeared to be lifted from Michael Jackson’s “Beat It†video.
I don’t know what is going on with Miley Cyrus, but it seems pretty clear that she is having a pretty serious identity crisis. It is almost painful to watch. I know we all want to rag on her for not being a “good role model for little girls,†or to wonder what effect her “too-sexy-for-17†look will have on kids in general, but I’m more concerned about the effect it will have on her.
Look at the picture below. Look at her face. This whole act just looks forced.
Miley’s attempts to redefine herself seem very much like the attempts of a teenage girl who’s trying to keep her boyfriend from dumping her by “putting out.†A desperate attempt to keep the attention of an audience who doesn’t deserve the effort. Perhaps if she could take the time to find the genuine Miley, she could gain the kind of attention that matters. Unfortunately, I think the fear of becoming irrelevant will be too strong for her (and those who have an “interest†in her success) to overcome.

Let me ask you John.... who watches Hannah Montana? Let me help you 7-14 year old girls.
These are the same girls who are buying her records... are you going to let your 7 year-old dress like this? I hope not...
It is not so much what is or isn't appropriate for a girl her age...but what might be appropriate for the girls the age of her fans.
In my opinion, I wouldn't have batted an eye at Miley for making this move AFTER she was done with her Disney contract (i.e. Justin, Christina, Britney) ...but that she chose to do it DURING her Disney contract.
...oh and as far as "attention whore" I have two words.... Lady Gaga
