Well, yeah. Pretty much.

We over-examine everything this precocious teen does to the point where I can't even tell if Miley Cyrus is becoming an attention whore, or if this is her embracing her sexuality and the media has taken it upon themselves to be judge of what is appropriate for a girl her age. In either sense why has she become the sole focus of the media as of late? Why do we expect her to be a role model?

John... she is far from being the "sole focus" of the media, but part of the problem here is that she (or her contract with Disney) has 'made' her into one image and then she (or her handlers/record label) is trying to 'make' her into a different, conflicting image. Miley JUST FINISHED filming her final season of Hannah Montana....

Let me ask you John.... who watches Hannah Montana? Let me help you 7-14 year old girls.

These are the same girls who are buying her records... are you going to let your 7 year-old dress like this? I hope not...

It is not so much what is or isn't appropriate for a girl her age...but what might be appropriate for the girls the age of her fans.

In my opinion, I wouldn't have batted an eye at Miley for making this move AFTER she was done with her Disney contract (i.e. Justin, Christina, Britney) ...but that she chose to do it DURING her Disney contract.

I guess I can understand, because she makes a kid show she is required to hold herself to a higher standard than most. I have problems with the logic, because i doubt that whether her questionable actions occur within her contract or outside of her contract, her role model status doesn't change, we don't give role models free passes to live their life as they please once they become of age. They idea that a girl who has two personas (one involving a blond wig) could become the role model of tons of adolescent girls, doesn't sound like a problem with Miley Cyrus sounds like a problem with the kids. Nobody knew Justin, Christina, or Britney, until after they were famous for something else, so to compare Miley to them is not really fair.
