"Harry Potter" actress assaulted by her father...

Actress Afshan Azad 23, was allegedly attacked by her father and brother and threatened with death. The father Abul Azad, 54, and her brother Ashraf Azad, 28, were both accused of threatening to kill the young "Harry Potter" actress.

The brother is alos chared with assault in actually harming Afshan. The case is currently adjourned until later this month. The attack occurred in her home in Longsight, Mnchester, on May 21, 2010. Afshan was cast in 2005 in "Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire."

Afshan Azad also appeared in three more "Harry Potter" movies, including "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows" which is due for release later this year according to Fox News. Afshan plays Padma. She plays a witch and is the identical sister of Parvati Patil who is played by Shefila Chowdhury.

Afshan is not a professional actress and did not expect to get the job as Padma, but tried out for fun. She is happy about her acting career. The article did not say why the assault happened.

Sounds like "honor" issue to me. They probably view the series as demonic or glorifying demonism and magic which should be offensive to Muslims.

They are Muslim and it ws a failed attempt at an "honor killing". This is not taught in ther Scripture so much as it is an accepted behavior among members of their faith. I am so sorry for this little girl.

They dont' love their women. that's kind of The POINT. With few exceptions, Muslim women are treated like livestock with smaller living quarters.

This is sad, but it is also not one of those situations that we should assume happened just because she is muslim. Yes, I'll agree, some muslim women are treated as live stock, but I think that not all are, and there are plenty of other cultures that treat the women like slaves, independent of religion. Even in this country, when we became a nation, women were considered second class. It may have been an attempted honor killing, but why would they have waited till she filmed all three films if they didn't like it.
I think there's more to this than meets the eye. Domestic violence against women in this country is still a big problem also.

This is upsetting to hear. I just don't understand how a father and brother can viciously try to hurt the person that they should be protecting the most. This is truly reprehensible. I just will never understand the mind set. Sickening.
