Mel Gibson recently screamed and belittle his infant daughter's mother with racist comments. I will not repeat those comments here, but it was aimed at black men. The fact remains that this is not the first time his racist rants were shared with the public. Whether these rants were due to Mel Gibson being under the influence of alcohol, from personal experience, parental examples or plain ignorance.
Jesse Jackson states that Mel Gibson has a fundamental character flaw. I have to agree with Jesse Jackson that there is a flaw in his character, but disagree with his belief that the state of race relations are the same as they have been for years. I believe that there has been a great deal of improvement in the race relations but there is still a great deal more to be achieved.
Mel Gibson should not be held up as a standard of race relations. He is simply a man who is in the limelight due to his profession. He does not speak for me even with my fondness for some of his work. He does not speak for my family who has a diverse group of friends of a variety of races and religions. He does not speak for my family who treats individuals of all races with the respect and desires to be treated with respect for our differences as well.
Mel Gibson should only be used as an example of how one man is only an example of how one man thinks and acts and not the whole.
