Anne Rice quits Christianity. The vampire author made her announcement on her Facebook page. There are several good reasons why Rice has decided she can no longer associate herself with the organized religion of Christianity.
Rice Quits Christianity Because She Refuses to be Anti-Gay or Anti-Feminist
Some of the reasons that Rice listed for losing her religion are that she will not be anti-gay or anti-feminist. She is not even willing to be anti-artificial birth control. On Wednesday she wrote on Facebook "In the name of ... Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen."
She is not wrong. There are many far right voices in Christianity that give the religion a bad name for all. Although she is no longer associated with Christianity, she remains devoted to Christ. She is troubled by the child abuse scandals that the church has been involved in.
Rice says that she intends to continue on with her fiction series “Songs of the Seraphim.†Although she has no plans to return to writing about vampires, she does enjoy “True Blood†and the first two “Twilight†movies.
Rice feels what many thinking Christians feel these days. The far right Christian groups are so hate filled that it becomes a bit disgusting to be associated with it.

A true follower of Christ doesn't judge people based on sexual orientation, among other things...
But good for her for rejecting the church.
As sad as it is, I can imagine why it is hard for Anne Rice to call herself a Christian when she believed in such things. It is impossible to harbor both sets of beliefs. She was not really a true Christian anyway.
