Wham! Another George Michael Drug Charge-Arrest

Bruce, thank you for the light-hearted chuckle of the day. "Wham!..."--I love it. How about "wake me up before you (oh no, he's been arrested again)." More obscure, I guess. But I am cursed with a memory for pop melodies and lyrics, now that song will spin through my head all day.

I wonder whether the youngsters reading this would've gotten the headline had you not mentioned the band. Oh, there are some advantages to getting older, I suppose. : D

Or, "somebody tell me/why WE work so hard for George--to give him our money""! (which I think is back to Wham! again)
Or "Wham-bam, George's in trouble again!"
Bruce, do you think celebrity just accentuates pre-existing problems or habits (such as addiction) for some or is it celebrity then addiction/problems? I guess it depends on the celebrity, doesn't it? What a Catch-22; to be talented, rich, and famous and yet so deeply unhappy, as with Michael Jackson and others?

;) I'm not Bruce, but I think there's3 things about being a celebrity figure - If Joe Blow had a "careless driving" accident, we'd never know unless we knew Joe Blow. Many celebrities have a lot of down time (when's the last time George Michael released an album) and are able to indulge their vices freely without having to go to work with a hangover or call out sick. And because they do have the cash, they don't have to worry about losing their job, because they can sign with another label or make another movie.
The third thing is (I think) there's nobody around to tell them "no" or tell them to get their act together. Mostly they have "friends" and family that won't tell them to stop acting like an ass. Look at Lindsay Lohan, if she was your kid, you'd want her in rehab until she got herself straight. You wouldn't be whining about how she couldn't make a movie...
anyway, that's just my opinion and like noses, I have a right to blow it once in a while...

Bruce, I do think there's a lot of merit in quite a bit of '80s music. Yep, I came of age way back then! Though I matured, perhaps, during the Grunge era and after the second (or third?) New Wave hit, I've still got a lot of early to mid-'80s pop in me. Prince is a musical genius; ditto The Police, Yes, Queen (even in the '80s), Peter Gabriel (most people ought to step outside the mega-hits "Sledgehammer," "Shock the Monkey," and even one of my favorite satire songs, "Big Time"; I think they'd be pleasantly surprised), Hall and Oates, and some others in pop/rock I'm forgetting at the moment. Then, individually great songs or "one-hit wonders" do jump out at me: "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes (though they have other great songs if you check out the back-catalog, like "Roundabout"), Joan Jett's "I Love Rock'N'Roll," some Supertramp stuff, Stray Cats' "Rock this Town" or "Stray Cat Strut," oh there's really so many, too many, to mention.

Leigh, I'd love to peer into your MP3 player, or if you're like me....Sony Walkman. lol. You're cool people, especially, if you're a fan of Queen, The Police, and Hall and Oates. Dont' forget Sting and Boy George. I could go on and on. That was real groovin music.

I try to keep it eclectic, but lately listen to a lot of 70s channel on XM radio. Husband has afflicted me with some type of ABBA disease. ... Must become Swedish, love snow, wear furry boots, wall of sound, big smiles, lovers' angst, argh! (But seriously, they have grown on me, not unlike a fungus.)

Oh, and since ex-Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley is married to a Bananarama singer, if they get together and tour, is it a Whamarama or is it a Bananawham?! (sorry, it was just dying to be said given this "cruel, cruel summer" and all that!)

The 80's was a time of great music, happy music. I miss it, but thank God for an MP3 Player.

He was a sweetie. I think he was half Siamese, half tabby cat (I got him from a friend and he wasn't sure, but there was a Siamese cat in the mix). boy, I couldn't work at the humane society, I'd want to take all of them home....
