Emma Watson, the 20 year old beauty, who has portrayed Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, is reportedly taking a break from acting to focus on school and life in general. According to reports at Express, Watson may even be considering a full retirement from the acting game. Hopefully, she reconsiders and returns to acting, but right now she is looking at getting a college education, which is an admirable thing to do.
" I think I need to find some real belief in myself away from acting. I know that I can play Hermione but I don’t know... I really think I need to recharge my batteries and go and be me for a bit,†Watson said in the interview.
Much of her life has been entwined with film, and she has mostly worked on the Harry Potter series. The first movie of the series came out in 2001, so for the better part of a decade, she has been with the franchise. Harry Potter is not the only film work she has done. In 2007 she was in Ballet Slippers as Pauline Fossil, who much like her younger self, longs to be an actress. She also provided her voice for the character of Princess Pea, in The Tale of Despereaux.
While she is a talented actress, having an education to fall back on is infinitely more important. So many child actors find themselves unemployed as adults, and with a college education, the sky is the limit. Surely if Watson wanted to return to acting, she would be able to tackle new roles, even if she took several years off. Hopefully she wont be gone that long, but we wish her well in whatever endeavors she seeks in the future. For right now, she needs to become a real life Hermione and get her nose in the books.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One comes out on November 19, 2010. The trailer can be viewed below.
