Black may be ever-present on the red carpet but not for actresses Elle Fanning and Michelle Williams. For their respective premieres at the Venice Film Festival, both chose dresses in soft, pale colors.
When Sofia Coppola’s, “Somewhere,†opened in Venice, Elle wore a short and strapless Marc Jacobs dress. Similarly, her director, Sofia Coppola wore Marc Jacobs-helmed Louis Vuitton on the same premiere. The floral embroidery in pale green and blue suited Elle’s porcelain skin while the flared skirt lent a playfulness that was perfect for a very young actress. Another youthful touch were her metallic mary jane pumps, also by Marc Jacobs.
“Meek’s Cutoff†is also up for the festival’s Golden Lion prize. For the movie’s premiere, Michelle Williams again proved her fashion mettle in a beautiful, embellished, nude gown by Jason Wu from his Resort 2011 collection. It was ladylike all the way for Michelle with the elbow-length sleeves, the sheer bow on the neckline and a train.
The Fashion Patrol identified Michelle’s understated accessories - jewelry by Bulgari and a Cecelia clutch in black, as well as Christian Louboutin heels. The French term, “gamine,†suited Michelle perfectly with a look that was completed by her short and chic hairstyle. She must be what Style.com pictured when they referred to Wu’s collection as having a, “Parisian flavor.â€
