Mariska Hargitay, star of "Law & Order: SVU" plays very confident Detective Olivia Benson, and that confidence seems to illustrate her attitude in real life. So many actresses in Hollywood are bony and shockingly thin for the cameras. Hargitay bucks that trend and stays a size 8 in a town where the average actress is a size 0 or a 2.
Hargitay said, “I think I’m a very attractive person, but I don’t put myself in the realm of the beauty. That’s not where I get my esteem. I’m a size 8, and I feel proud of that, because it’s healthy." It's refreshing to hear a Hollywood actress doesn't feel good just because of her looks. Many actresses think in order to remain successful in Hollywood, they must remain hungry -- not for success but for food.
"Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks is a size 12 and is considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood because of her curves. Before she made it big in "Mad Men", she was told to actually lose weight to get more acting jobs.
When will Hollywood realize curvy women are more attractive than a walking skeleton? What is considered curvy in Hollywood anyway? Hargitay at a size 8 would be considered pretty thin. At a size 12, Hendricks may mirror the average woman. She is admired because of her curves(and acting of course). Shouldn't it tell Hollywood that is what audiences want to see, instead of an actress that embodies an impossible standard.

It's slightly analogous to the Chinese practice of binding women's feet. It's kind of an unforgivable cultural sin in my view to distort humans to fit an impossible cultural ideal.
