The first of two nights at Yankee Stadium spelled success for Jay-Z and Eminem, as they took hip-hop home to the Bronx, where the musical form originated.
Bronx Significance
According to MSN, rapper Eminem made the following statement to the crowd regarding the significance of where the performance was taking place.
Do not think that I don't know where I'm at right now," Eminem told the audience at Monday night's sold out show. "I'm also honored to be on this (expletive) stage in the Bronx, the (expletive) birthplace of hip-hop."
Eminem's hit single "I Love the Way You Lie" brought down the house.
Impressive List of Guest Stars
The performances by Eminem and Jay-Z, along with the guest stars they brought up on stage with them, was the first musical billing at Yankee Stadium.
Eminem brought D-12, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, and newcomer B.o.b. to the stage to join him in part of his performance. Jay-Z asked wife Beyonce to join him on stage, along with Chris Martin from Coldplay, Drake and N
icki Minaj, and Kanye West.
Later in the evening, Jay-Z addressed the phenomenal number of people in the audience, telling them that nights like this one don't happen all too often.
"This is historic. They ain't never gonna be another night like tonight."
Well, that's not entirely true, Jay-Z. The second night of the sold out show is on tap for tomorrow. And after that....well, only time will tell in an encore presentation is in the cards.
