Malibu is well known for it's share of celebrity drama, but the region saw a different sort of disturbance this weekend when, Saturday morning at 7:18AM PST, Ricki Lake narrowly escaped her beach rental home with her two sons after the home caught fire.
Authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office confirmed that though Lake, her two sons, and their dog escaped the blaze unscathed, the home was destroyed.
The fire broke out after Lake attempted to refuel a portable heater, catching a couch in the living room on fire. Â The flame quickly spread, and soon the living room was ablaze, with the flames reaching up to 30 feet and spreading to engulf the entire residence.
The home was located along the Pacific Coast Highway, and the disaster shut the stretch of highway down for nearly two hours while firefighters sought to contain the fire.
Lake, who starred in the 90's film Hairspray and hosted a daytime talk show, is just lucky that she and her sons escaped the flames unharmed.
