Everyone's been talking about Joaquin Phoenix over the past year and how he quit acting to go into the music business. Â He took to David Letterman's late night show last year to promote his movie at the time, Two Lovers, and by now, everyone has watched the interview that followed which left the world in confusion. Â But wait, it was all part of his role for I'm Still Here. Â Casey Affleck was filming it for the movie. Â And last night Phoenix returned to David Letterman to promote I'm Still Here and clear up any remaining questions.
Joaquin Phoenix Is Back - And Apparently a Really Good Actor
Joaquin Phoenix appeared on Letterman's show last night (below) and gave the host a much-deserved apology. Â "I think you've interviewed many, many people, and I assumed that you would know the difference between a character and a real person, but I apologize. Â I hope I didn't offend you in any way." Â Letterman insisted he wasn't offended, and he had enjoyed the interview, calling it "so much fun," and comparing it to "batting practice...Every one of them was a dinger." Â And for anyone wondering if Letterman knew what was going on the entire time, that was cleared up last night as well. Â Phoenix said that the late night host wasn't in on it, and that was the entire point of the appearance: "We'd hoped to come on a talkshow, and I was looking for a beat down, and I got one...I want to thank you for that." Â It made for an interesting interview, and it looks like Phoenix is returning to how he used to be before this whole charade.
What do you think? Â Have you seen I'm Still Here? Â Did you believe Joaquin Phoenix for a moment when he said he was retiring from acting to pursue his hip-hop music career?
