Actor Brad Garrett has gotten himself “Tangled†up in comments he made while promoting his new animated Disney film. During an interview about the new movie, in which he voices the character Hook Hand Thug, Garrett strayed a good ways away from G-rated territory.
Garrett spoke with Rob Saul and Travis Wettstein of BlogTalkRadio.com’s “Night Views Radio.†When asked about the premise of “Tangled,†he said, “It’s a modern day version of Rapunzel. And this hot chick is in the castle, and oddly enough it’s her pubic hair that she lets out the window. It’s kind of strange…â€
The actor then caught himself, and said, “Oh God, God, I hope this doesn’t get out.†The hosts assured him it wouldn’t as they figured that they don’t have much of an audience. (Raise your hand if you’ve heard of “Night Views Radio†before now.) But, alas, it has.The New York Post had a whole write-up about the interview on “Page Six†on Wednesday.
Brad Garrett did go on to praise the film, in general, and Alan Menken, in particular, for writing the music for “Tangled.†Whether or not his praise for the movie will make up for his not-quite-G-rated comments remains to be seen.
Since “Tangled’s†intended audience probably doesn’t concern themselves with “Night Views Radio†or the New York Post’s "Page Six" column, Garrett should be fine.
Besides, it's not as though Disney has never had any potty-mouthed actors working for them before. After all, the late George Carlin, who voiced “Fillmore†in Disney/Pixar’s “Cars,†was also known for his “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television.â€
On top of that, we have all heard of the various controversies surrounding supposed “hidden sexual images†in Disney films and packaging. There are sites and even Facebook groups devoted to the existence of these images. Even with all of that, Disney’s reputation has not been tarnished. Certainly a little joke about pubic hair isn’t going to get Brad Garrett black-balled from future Disney films.
What do you think about Brad Garrett’s comments about “Tangled What, if anything, do you think Disney should do about it? The full interview is below to help you decide:
