Did they or didn't they?
Reports this week conflict on whether Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough got engaged in Paris recently, with Popeater claiming the duo left the City of Light without putting a ring on it but the National Enquirer reporting the diminutive media mogul did indeed pop the question.
According to Popeater's initial report on Monday, the former "Dancing with the Stars" pro was disappointed when the two didn't get engaged after they spent days visiting a sold-out Monet art exhibit and buying shoes.
"Julianne thought that this was going to be it," a friend told the website. "Every girl wants to be engaged and where in the world is more romantic than Paris? She loves being welcomed with open arms into Ryan's extremely close and wonderful family and was so happy to be invited to spend Thanksgiving with them. But she thought these were all signs that this was going to be the trip to change her life forever and that just didn't happen."
But The Enquirer claims the "American Idol" host, 35, did propose to Julianne, 22 (that age difference is just icky).
"Ryan is ready to make Julianne his bride, but he wanted to blow her away with the most romantic proposal possible," an insider dished to the mag. "With only a few weeks before 'Idol' is back on TV, he organized a quickie trip to Paris and invited his sister and his parents along so they could share in the happy occasion."
If that's the case, why didn't they make an announcement? Nothing else was going on over Thanksgiving weekend, so they would have been the center of attention. Unless they have a deal in place with a tabloid for the exclusive, there's no reason to keep an engagement under wraps.
The Enquirer also claims that Ryan is so committed to starting a family with the "Burlesque" star, he's cutting back on his workload.
"Ryan is planning to opt out of renewing the contract for his syndicated radio show," the source told The Enquirer, before laying it on really thick: "Julianne has transformed him from a work machine into a love machine."
Well, that's both dubious and laughable, considering Popeater reported the two didn't even share a room in Paris, and there are also all those, uh, rumors about Ryan. But either way, whether Julianne got that ring or not, at least she got a nice vacation and some hot shoes!
