Though the incident happened over three years ago, Ja Rule was found guilty in front of a New York judge this morning of a weapons charge from an incident in July of 2007. Ja Rule was found to have a semi-automatic handgun in the back of his sports car after he was stopped for a routine traffic violation, and plead guilty to a charge of attempted criminal weapons possession.
Ja Rule's sentencing has not been set as of yet, though the judge "promised a two-year sentencing" in the case for the guilty plea. Until the time of sentencing, Ja Rule is able to walk free.
Ja Rule has been neglecting his recording career as of late, but was best known for his part on tracks with the likes of Jennifer Lopez ("I'm Real"), Ashanti ("Mesmerize" and "Always on Time") and R. Kelly ("Wonderful"), though he had a reasonably successful solo career as well. Though Ja - whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins - took time away from Def Jam records beginning in 2005, he has recently reemerged with "Rule York", though his fame has still dwindled in comparison to the early 2000's.
