Tracy Morgan of "30 Rock" Fame underwent a kidney transplant on December 10. Morgan has long been diabetic, which can take its toll on one's kidneys.
According to a report from People Magazine, Tracy Morgan will only be absent from two "30 Rock" episodes airing in March as a result of his kidney transplant surgery. In fact, he was seen at a New York Knicks basketball game very recently, which is further proof of his swift recovery.
Tina Fey told the press that "30 Rock" will handle Tracy Morgan's character's absence on the show by saying he had some sort of "meltdown," and fans who know the show well will understand full well what they're talking about when his absence is explained. Fans will, however, miss him for those two weeks, as his humor lends a major facet to the overall feel of the show.
Tracy Morgan was first known for his comedy skits on "Saturday Night Live." He spent eight seasons on "SNL" before going off to explore his wealth of other options. He was discovered at the age of 16 doing stand up at the famed Apollo in New York City.
Tracy Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes back in 1996, however, he didn't take the disease seriously. He didn't listen to his doctor or take his medication. He was once taken seriously ill on the set of "30 Rock," and was running a temperature of 104. From that point on he followed his doctor's orders, but the disease wreaked havoc on his kidneys, ultimately resulting in the transplant earlier this month. Diabetes is nothing to take lightly. It has been called the silent killer for years. Patients with diabetes need to exercise and watch what they eat, along with monitoring their blood sugar.
Hopefully Tracy Morgan will appreciate his new lease on life. Nothing has been said about whether the kidney came from a live donor or was harvested. He has received a gift that not everyone who suffers from a serious disease is fortunate enough to get.
