Adele, a British singer who has graced the charts in the U.S. and abroad, is singing Sarah Palin's praises, claiming Palin is the reason for the singer's success in the United States. Really?
According to MSN, it's really true. However, it must be noted that Sarah Palin did nothing intentional in assisting with the singer's career.
It seems that the first time Adele was scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live, it also happened to be the episode on which then Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was appearing as well. This was back in 2008, when Tina Fey and her Palin impressions were in their heyday, so the episode of SNL on which Palin would appear was highly publicized and well-anticipated.
As it turned out, that particular episode of SNL brought with it the show's "highest viewing figures in 14 years," and the British singer is convinced it boosted her singing career. Even the repeats of that episode brings in higher-than-average views.
A funny thing took place during the show's rehearsal and live performance, too. You see, Adele is a huge Tina Fey fan. She found herself backstage at one point within hearing range of who she believed to be Fey. She called out, "Tina... Tina..." all to no avail, however. It wound up being Sarah Palin. And of course at that point in time, she had no idea how the politician would wind up casting her off into musical stardom. It was way too early to have said thank you!
It's unlikely that Sarah Palin has any notion of the fact that she may have been instrumental in enhancing Adele's career. It's even more unlikely that she would even care if she knew. And it may in fact simply be coincidence that Adele became a household word after that particular Saturday Night Live appearance. However, she's certainly not knocking it. In her mind, it worked. And she has the career to prove it!
