Amber Portwood, star of Teen Mom, is dissing Teen Mom 2 star Janelle Evans. She even goes so far as to call the reality TV star "embarrassing." Is Amber really in the position to be throwing such barbs?
According to a report from OK Magazine, Portwood claims she "despises" Janelle's behavior of late.
“I pretty much despise what she stands for!” Portwood says.
So what exactly does Janelle Evans stand for that Amber Portwood doesn't? It could be that Evans has lost custody of her son. However in the big picture, the fact is that Janelle's mother taking custody could be the very best thing for both Evans and her baby boy.
Amber Portwood continues, saying that despite her recent legal woes for having been arrested for domestic abuse after assaulting Gary Shirley, her daughter Leah's father, she has at the very least fought to keep her daughter.
Sadly, this case of flying barbs simply shouldn't be. Nor should the whole notion of a TV show putting teenage mothers in the media spotlight. What young women viewing these shows at home don't see is the amount of money these young people are paid for airing their dirty laundry on national TV. That allows them the freedom to hire babysitters, attend parties at which they arrive in limousines, and own homes at the age of 19 or 20. Put clearly--these reality TV shows are simply not real.
Amber Portwood dissing Janelle Evans is akin to a prisoner incarcerated for robbery calling the embezzler a more heinous criminal. It's just plain stupid.
Will viewers ever wise up and stop tuning in to TV shows like Teen Mom and Teen Mom2? Not likely. Will MTV ever stop producing these shows? Not as long as advertisers pay big bucks to endorse them.
The biggest underlying fear in all this hype is that by glamorizing and dramatizing the lives of girls like Amber Portwood and Janelle Evans, these shows send the message that it's not all that bad to become teen moms. Reality, on the other hand, tells a much different story.
