Gilbert Gottfried is under fire for making insensitive jokes about the tragedy in Japan. If you look at his Twitter page, you will find quite a few jokes that are very insulting to the people that are suffering in Japan. Thousands of people are dead and/or missing after an 8.9 earthquake and a violent tsunami overtook parts of the country.
Many comedians will try to lighten situations with jokes, however with a tragedy of this magnitude, it's uncalled for. Gottfried is definitely pushing the envelope here and many people are taking notice.
"Japan called me. They said 'maybe those jokes are a hit in the US, but over here, they're all sinking,'" read one tweet. "Japan is really advanced. They don't go to the beach. The beach comes to them," read another.
Gottfried is not holding anything back and some of his Japan centered "jokes" are really bad. To be making jokes at a time when people are suffering and so many are in fear for their lives is low. It's a terrible way to deal with this crisis and it's not funny.
