Katy Perry is heading to American Idol to perform as the show takes on a futuristic theme of sorts.
Poor Paul McDonald is going to miss sharing the stage with one of Hollywood’s hottest pop tarts as Katy makes her way onto the American Idol stage to sing her intergalactic tune E.T. next week. She’ll be joined by Idol alum David Cook, who will be performing his new single The Last Goodbye (which sounds like it would make a fitting farewell tune for an alien lover).
Of course American Idol fans could be in for a real treat if Katy Perry puts on an out-of-this-world show complete with another alien look (a la her E.T. video), and it would be awesome if she could give the contestants kitschy, Katy makeovers with an extraterrestrial twist.
But while she might not be helping them get futuristic with their wardrobe, the contestants will have to make futuristic song choices (sort of). The remaining 7 contestants will have to choose songs from the 21st century, which doesn’t narrow the selection down all that much (it would have been more fun to go with a space theme since Katy Perry will be getting intergalactic -- think Elton John’s Rocket Man or David Bowie’s Space Oddity).
ItÂ’s also a shame that Katy PerryÂ’s hubby isnÂ’t coming along to perform with her -- Russell Brand did just get cast in the musical movie Rock of Ages, after all.
So will we ever see a duet between the couple? Well, Russell’s vocals might not be up to American Idol standards, but perhaps Katy Perry will appear with him in a cameo role in Rock of Ages, or maybe the two could work on a silly song together (contrary to the singing competition that Katy will be performing on, it doesn’t always take an amazing voice to be an entertaining singer!).
