Stephen Colbert is celebrating his 47th birthday today, May 13th. What do you suppose this funny man--know for his political writing and his hilarious satire is doing to celebrate as he nears that ever-looming age of 50?
According to a report from Hollywood Life, no birthday plans have hit the media, so the Comedy Central star may just be staying home to enjoy his birthday with his family.
Stephen Colbert and wife Evelyn McGee live in Montclair, New Jersey with their three children, Madeline, Peter and Jon. And Comedy Central isn't allowed on TV at the Colbert home--at least Dad's shows aren't--when the kids are around.
"They understand that I make people laugh and that I ask silly questions," Stephen says in a recent interview. "But children don't get irony or sarcasm. It just sounds mean to them."
That's not a bad policy, but do you wonder how difficult it might be to pull that off? It's not easy in this day and age to prevent kids from watching particular TV shows in this era of DVRs, On Demand, and YouTube--not to mention in many homes there is a TV in almost every room!
Certainly as Stephen Colbert's children grow, they will grow to understand Dad's comedy methods, and will undoubtedly wind up as his biggest fans. In the meantime the whole family will hopefully gather together and celebrate the Stephen Colbert that they know and love best--the one they call husband and father.
