Eden Wood is a 6-year-old perpetual pageant contestant, featured in the 'reality' TV show Toddlers & Tiaras. If you're among those who think a mother couldn't do anything worse than enter a child into one of these pageants--think again. Little Eden's mom is taking her on tour.
According to PerezHilton.com, the 6-year-old Toddlers & Tiaras star started her tour this weekend. On Saturday she appeared--with her stage mommy trailing at arm's length--in Arkansas.
Eden Wood, accompanied by a handful of her little pageant friends, will sing, dance and preen for the crowds gathered at malls, town halls and restaurants. Why don't these moms just teach these little girls that material things, including an overly made-up appearance, is the best they'll ever have to offer? Oh, wait! That's exactly what they are teaching them!
These so-called pageants first came into the mainstream media after the murder of JonBenet Ramsey in 1996. Her mother Patsy Ramsey had entered her in numerous child pageants, making many people wonder what the murdered child may have been involved in or exposed to.
It's one thing for teenage girls or young women to enter beauty or scholarship pageants. For the most part, they are doing so of their own volition. Six-year-old girls and (sadly) even many who are younger, really don't have a lot of say in the shenanigans. They're most likely satisfying some ill-fed longing their mothers never satisfied during their own younger years.
What do you think about the entire premise of shows like Toddlers & Tiaras? Would you go to one of little Eden Wood's appearances if she came to visit your city?
