Reggae superstar Buju Banton has been sentenced to ten years in prison followed by five years probation for his involvement in setting up a cocaine deal in 2009..jpg)
According to BBC News, he was "convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute it, along with a further drug trafficking offence and a gun charge" back in February.
Supporters of Banton are already calling for his release, trending his name on Twitter, and retweeting messages such as "Free Buju Banton." As one of the most popular dancehall artists, Banton will leave a void in the music industry over the next decade. His talents are really appreciated and he even won a Grammy Award earlier this year.
Unfortunately, talented people sometimes do illegal things, and have to be punished. Some people don't believe that Banton had a hand directly in this mess, but evidently there was enough evidence to convict him. His punishment could have been more severe, but as of now, there is nothing he can do but serve the sentence.
