Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are engaged! Now that's a great way to celebrate New York legalizing gay marriage!
NPH and his chef partner have actually considered themselves to be engaged for five years and both wear engagement rings, but they've been patiently waiting to make their union official. So when the joyous news broke that the New York state senate had passed the Marriage Equality Bill Friday night, the couple quickly decided to make their engagement "official."
David Burtka wrote to a friend of his proposal, "I've already proposed, he said yes! Thank god! He proposed to me as well. I said yes! Thank god!" Awww...it's so cute that he was so excited after he and Neil Patrick Harris have been together for so long.
While Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka might not live in New York, it's not surprising that they would want to get married there -- after all, NPH is a fixture in NYC, having performed in multiple Broadway productions and hosted the Tony's there. His hit show How I Met Your Mother is also set in the city.
Plenty of other celebs are excited about the good news about gay marriage from New York, including Kathy Griffin, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Ellen DeGeneres, and Alec Baldwin, who also stars in a TV series set in NYC. However, there's no word on what his fellow 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan thinks of the news yet.
But back to David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris getting engaged. So who will they invite to the wedding, and will David plan the menu? Will they start planning it ASAP, or will they wait until their twins Harper and Gideon are old enough to be the ring bearer and flower girl? Either way, it's definitely going to be one of the most legen - wait for it - dary weddings the city has ever seen!
