Prince William competed in a charity polo match Saturday afternoon at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. William scored four goals, helping his team to win the match. Security had to keep the crowd back following his team's win so that Kate Middleton could present a blue and white Tiffany & Co. box to each competitor and a silver trophy to the winning team.
When William approached the podium, the crowd cheered for the royal couple to kiss, and Kate gave her prince a peck on the cheek. Naturally, the princess has to remain dignified at all times, as she always does.
At a reception after the charity polo match, Prince William said that he and Kate have been quite busy the past few days, "so the prospect of being able to let loose this afternoon is wonderful for me."
There were many celebrities in the audience as well as locals excited to catch a glimpse of Prince William and his new bride. The tickets, however, were quite expensive—even the cheapest started at $400! VIP tickets, which came with a chance to mingle with the royal couple, cost $4,000.
To compete in the polo match was even more expensive! Those who wished to play on the team against the prince paid about $50,000. To play on Prince William's team cost double! But hey—it was all for charity, so the expense was worthwhile.
This week's trip to California is Kate Middleton's first visit to America. Hopefully she and Prince William will have a lovely visit here in the States.
