Outrageous TV prankster Steve-O might be a real Jackass, but he's also the first to stand up for jackasses -- and dogs, cats or any other animal.
Steve-O -- best known for pulling wacky stunts on MTV's Jackass with his buddies Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera -- was honored for his continued dedication to animal rights this past weekend by PETA, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Back in 2009, the comedian embarked on a strict vegan diet and began publicly declaring his strong stance against animal cruelty around the world. He's appeared in many PETA ad campaigns since, including the organization's famous celebrity-endorsed "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" effort.
Steve-O's committment to critters earned him the PETA Activism Award at a reception in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Saturday (July 16), and it seems he truly felt like a winner.
"Being a vegan, caring about animals -- all of this compassion in my lifestyle is the reward in and of itself," said Steve-O.
Looks like the funnyman still has some sort of sense left, despite years of frying his brain with all those dangerous and painful Jackass shenanigans.
Right on, dude.
