Kris Allen's guitar was stolen yesterday and in response, a couple of his fans have set up a charity drive for students that need instruments for their classrooms. Yesterday morning Kris tweeted:
"Whoever broke into my car and stole my guitar....Im hunting you."
Upon hearing the news, some fans set up a charity giving page "in memory" of his stolen guitar. "Kris Allen Fans Unite" is a Donorschoose.org community that is soliciting donations for musical instruments to be provided to classrooms in need. They state:
"We believe that we can turn such a negative event into a positive by donating guitars and other musical instruments to kids who will love them as much as Kris loves his guitar (and his viola, and his piano, and his ukelele.....)"
Donorschoose.org is a charity website where people can choose from various projects to help schools buy materials for their classes. Another American Idol alum, Adam Lambert, partnered with Donorschoose.org for two campaigns, which when combined have raised more than half a million dollars.
This is not the first time Kris Allen has inspired fans to give toward charitable causes. This summer, a group of fans called 'Raise Your Voices' raised money for Direct Relief International in honor of Kris' 26th birthday. The same group also raised more than $26,000 for Heifer International to honor Kris's 25t birthday last year and brought in more than $26,000 for Music Empowers Foundation with a holiday charity campaign last December.
Kris himself has supported many charities. He has partnered with Music Empowers Foundation several times and has added a permanent Music Empowers Foundation banner to the homepage of his official website. He also partnered with "Berklee City Music Network" for a concert tour to raise awareness of the importance and need for music education, especially in urban areas where music programs are being reduced or eliminated. In addition, last October Kris performed at a concert to benefit Blackbird Academy of Arts and raised $50,000, which was matched by Music Empowers Foundation.
