Redmond O'Neal, son of the late Farrah Fawcett and actor Ryan O'Neal, violated his probation last week when he was caught with heroin in his car. Now the district attorney wants him in a state prison as a result of that violation.
According to RadarOnline, after he was arrested for the heroin possession, a warrant turned up a handgun he had in his possession as well. This further violated his probation. He is behind bars at this point in time, and will face a judge on Wednesday August 24th.
Redmond O'Neal had just finished a drug rehabilitation program ordered by the court less than a year ago. Called Drug Court, the reason behind this program is to keep drug offenders out of jail and give them the opportunity to get clean and stay clean. Clearly this didn't work in Redmond's case.
While Redmond O'Neal and dad Ryan O'Neal are hoping for a plea deal that will keep him out of jail, it certainly doesn't sound like that's likely to happen. Ryan O'Neal blames Farrah Fawcett's death on Redmond's issues, but they were clearly present long before his mother died. He was in shackles, for goodness sake, the very last time he saw his mother alive. Are Ryan's excuses perhaps exacerbating the situation--maybe even a little?
The only plea deal that the district attorney's office will even remotely consider involves time in a state prison. A source close to Ryan and Redmond O'Neal says that the family's lawyer disagrees.
"As far as the D.A. is concerned, the only deal they will sign off on is one that involves a lengthy state prison time. Redmond's lawyer, Richard Pental, respectfully disagrees and wants Redmond sent back to rehab. Redmond is a drug addict, and drug addicts need treatment, not jail," the source says.
It will be interesting to learn what ends up happening to Redmond O'Neal when he goes to court on August 24th. Will Hollywood money buy his way out of jail and into a cushy rehab facility or will the D.A have his way and put him in a state prison?
What do you think will or should happen?
