Uh-oh, there was a power outage today in upstate New York right before a Selena Gomez concert—the gates at the New York State Fairgrounds in Geddes were kept closed for longer than anticipated due to a faulty power circuit. Thank goodness that part of New York is not in the path of Hurricane Irene! This afternoon's power outage could have just been the first of many!
Because of the faulty power circuit, officials had to "shut off power to segments of the fairgrounds this afternoon and early evening. That included the grandstand, where gates were kept closed before the start of this evening's concert by pop star Selena Gomez & the Scene."
The faulty circuit was discovered late in the afternoon—around 4:30 p.m. Officials shut down the power at 5:00 p.m. while the faulty circuit was changed. The start of the Selena Gomez show was scheduled at 7:15 p.m.
According to assistant fair director Troy Waffner, it was around 6:30 p.m. when the power was restored. Crowds were kept waiting at the gates until just past 6:30 p.m.
Can you imagine how crazy Selena's fans must have been going? They probably wondered if they were going to see their favorite pop star perform at all!
Thankfully, the power was restored in time for Selena Gomez's concert, so fans did not miss out. Around 10,000 people were expected to attend.
