Kate Middleton and Prince William are apparently quite the bicycle riders, according to recent reports that they have been spotted pedaling to their destinations (when they can!), instead of putting the pedal to the metal with a host of chauffeurs. No doubt their security detail has also picked up the biking hobby out of necessity, if nothing else.
Apparently the royal couple find London's Barclays Cycle Hire (BCH) public bicycle sharing program quite favorable, supporting it the strongest way they possibly can—through their actions. And it is yet another reason why Will and Kate are such a down-to-earth match, and the antithesis of a high maintenance royal pair. Both obviously share an affinity for sports and the outdoors, and no better way to embrace that love than through bike riding.
An insider would not confirm the couple's use of the public Boris bikes, nicknamed for London Mayor Boris Johnson, only saying, "I was told that Wills and Kate use them, but that may be inaccurate." But another representative from St. James Palace was much more vocal, admitting, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge occasionally use the London cycle scheme to undertake private journeys around London," he said.
And, why wouldn't they, according to the Daily Mail, which highlighted it is only a short ride, about 20 minutes or so, from Kate Middleton and Prince William's home in Kensington Palace to their office at St. James Palace. And, a scenic ride at that, crossing through Hyde Park and Green Park.
Although they received a bright blue tandem Boris bike as a wedding gift from the office of the mayor, Prince William and Kate Middleton are more likely to be seen riding on the regular one-seat bicycles. After all, it is less attention-grabbing that way, of course. So, will cycling be the latest trend forged by the style-setting Kate Middleton?
