Kate Middleton has managed to shock and worry the media - by accidentally revealing a very prominent three-inch scar on her head.
The Duchess was conducting her first solo Royal engagement, attending a glitzy private party at Clarence House for the charity Kind Direct. The dinner was supposed to be hosted by Prince Charles, but he was unable to attend due to the sudden death of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
Kate chose a floor-length vintage Amanda Wakely dress which showed off her curvier figure, and pulled her hair back into a stylish half up/half down do - which unfortunately showed off the scar just behind her hairline.
Pictures showed the Duchess chatting with guests and seeming very comfortable, and sources suggested she was was delighted to have been asked to stand in. Prince Charles prepared a speech for guests to apologize for his absence, and thanked his 'darling daughter in law' for stepping in at short notice.
It was the scar which grabbed the headlines, however - which the Duchesses' spokesperson quickly releasing a statement to reveal that the scar was the result of a childhood operation. They refused to release details of what the operation was for, but stated that it was 'very serious', prompting some journalists to begin to worry about her health.
However, a consultant at a London hospital gave his opinion - stating that he thought the scar looked more like the result of a birthmark-removal operation then anything more sinister. He also commented on how well Kate had kept it hidden.
Despite her scar stealing the show, Kate did a marvellous job of hosting the dinner, and it seems her Royal training has paid off - she seemed much more relaxed and confident then she has at previous encounters, and her dress was much younger choice then her usual style - the beaded halterneck and crossed sleeves mixed contemporary and vintage styles, and the dress hugged her slender figure.
The sudden alarm also illustrates just how loved the Duchess is around the World - there was immediate concern for her health, and Kate was praised throughout the media for having an in-depth knowledge of the charities work and even asking her parents company to donate children's toys towards their work.
She certainly seems at home with Royalty now, and it's great to see the Duchess looking so happy!
