DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy lashed out at judge Len Goodman on the show a few weeks back. But according to the latest issue of Us Weekly, the real personality conflict on Dancing with the Stars is between Maks and fellow pro Derek Hough.
"They hate each other. ... The professional dance community is really small. The dancers have known one another their entire lives. Now that the group is famous, it's added a whole other level of rivalry and competitiveness," a DWTS source tells the mag.
Maks is also still upset about his brief fling with Derek's younger sister, Julianne Hough, who told Maks "she didn't want to have a serious relationship" but then began "dating" Ryan Seacrest. Maks retaliated by "planting false rumors that Julianne was cheating on Ryan with Maks," but obviously that was a pretty lame way to retaliate, because although a quick Google search shows The National Enquirer reported Julianne-Maks hookup rumors in 2009, does anyone actually remember that? (And Maks, that was two years ago. Get over it!)
But another Dancing with the Stars insider claims that not only did Maks not plant any hookup stories but also Derek "isn't the nice guy he seems."
"Derek is dating Lauren Conrad for publicity [editor's note: given all those, uh, 'rumors' about Derek, that's pretty obvious]," says another source. "He is focused on becoming a huge star like Julianne."
Is Julianne a "huge star," really? You might want to aim a little higher, Derek. At any rate, Dancing with the Stars is missing out by not putting the Maks-Derek feud on the air. Those rehearsal packages can be so boring and sanitized—throwing Maks and Derek in a room together and letting them have it out would liven up the non-dance segments (or provide more interesting filler for those drawn-out results shows). But at the very least, you can all agree that they're just both divas.
What do you think? Are you Team Maks or Team Derek? Do you still watch Dancing with the Stars? And did you catch Maks' Ukrainian season of The Bachelor (clip below)? Sound off in the comments!
