Kim Kardashian, as just about everyone expected, filed for divorce from Kris Humphries just over a week ago. The question is - why is everyone so outraged about this news? If you were to ask the general public whether they thought Kim and Kris had found eternal love, the overwhelming majority would have probably answered: no. So why, then, is everyone going bezerk over the news that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are divorcing? Is it that their marriage failed? Is it that they didn't give their marriage a fair chance? Is it that they are divorcing so quickly (after only 72 days)? Or, is it because Kim and Kris reportedly made millions off their wedding, meaning their marriage was a sham?
An article published by the Wall Street Journal brought up an interesting point to ponder, which can be related to the Kardashian fiasco: "The great impresario P.T. Barnum always maintained that the public doesn't mind being swindled as long as it is entertained."
Has the public not been entertained? Kim Kardashian exposes her life, ludacris or not, to entertain the world through her family's show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kim and Kris aired their big "fairytale" wedding for the world to see. Heck, they even called it a fairytale themselves, admitting that it is a story, only partially based on reality. Not every fairytale has a happy ending.
The conclusion reached by the Wall Street Journal, is that the public is outraged because it has not been entertained enough - meaning, this divorce between Kim and Kris is happening way too soon for the public's taste. Not because the public was hoping for Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries to live happily ever after, but because the public did not get to be entertained by the drama of watching their marriage crumble before their eyes over time. The big "fairytale" ended too soon - perhaps before the entire story was written.
It is interesting, to say the least, how people act outraged and claim it is because Kim made money off the wedding, or whatever reason they come up with. But why, then, do they pay attention and watch the shows the Kardashian family puts out? The reason is simple - to be entertained.
