Kate Gosselin Counts Down to Las Vegas Marathon

It is a great race to run. I have done it myself. If she was a typical working mom I might even be excited about her running it but I am not I got up at 3am to do my long runs while the kids slept before I had to work. My father would stay at my house on those days so the kids would not be alone. I saved for a year for flights and hotel. I had no one footing the bill I would respect her more if she did it on her own. But no she will take all the spot light and act like the diva she is. She needs to go away quietly for a while.

Marie - congratulations on your doing the run! If I ever got myself up to snuff again I think I'd have to check out that series, it sounds like fun! I ran two marathons a number of years ago, before I had my daughter. I was always slow, and I also usually got in my mid-week mid-length run in the mornings, getting up at 4 a.m. to do it. I'm not sure how I would manage to put in the miles to ever do it now as a single mom. And as you said, then saving up to travel and such - I respect you for doing it! I agree, Kate certainly has a lot of advantages that make it much easier for her. The mileage is a bear for anybody not an elite runner, but yes, the schedule, money, flexibility and such takes a lot of pressure off for her. Maybe she'll surprise people and run it low-key and not be a diva, I'll wait and see. I know, I actually wouldn't mind her taking some time out of the spotlight either, honest. But a lot of people love her and love updates on her, even if I'm not personally a huge fan.

I have absolutely no respect for this woman, or anyone who writes in her favor. To add to the above comment, I think she needs to go away quietly, permanently. I would love to google her name, and find absolutely nothing...especially the drivel that is written. I would cheer negatives, though.

Well Ellen, it's not hard to find negative stuff about her, especially this past week. I see it all over the place. Why such an interest in her if you despise her so much? Frankly I don't care for her myself and I wouldn't mind her staying out of the limelight either, but a lot of people do like her and love seeing new articles about her. As for writing in her favor and your lack of respect for me over it - sorry you feel that way. There are plenty of people and sites out there who are negative, rude, cruel and inaccurate about everything celebrity/entertainment related, and I simply try to take a different approach most of the time.

Stacy, I meant I have no respect for Kate Gosselin. I despise her, actually, and I think it has become an obsession. I cannot understand why people cannot see through her, and realize just who she is. I saw her as a wife, I saw her treatment of Jon, and could understand perfectly his need to be away from her. Moreover, I recall on the show, that he said, that she said, she was "done". She was the person who called a halt to the marriage. He was the on hands parent...and received nothing but criticism for his effort. I also believe he was good for the children, and allowed them to be themselves. He was interested in them. Do you recall the pumpkin episode? The carving of them? Kate couldn't wait to clean up, even though they were still in the midst of fun, Jon along with them. She started to roll up the paper on which they were working, and ordered everyone to stop. How many times did I see him running back to the house because she forgot her purse or something. She bellowed and bellowed and bellowed. That, I think, is the real Kate. What about her behavior on the Sarah Palin episode? What a spoiled brat she is. The kids, once again, were having fun, but she called a halt. She threatened that they could become Palins if they didn't follow her from the location. And on, and on, and on. What about the pizza episode? There are just so many. And I wonder why people cannot see this? What is so great about her? Nothing, in my opinion. She doesn't see her siblings, her parents; I don't think she has one friend. I pity the kids. As I said, I admit the obsession that I have. I am incredulous that anyone can have an alternate view...given all that we have been exposed to.

Ellen, thanks for your follow-up comment, it helps me understand your perspective a lot. And I appreciate the clarification about the respect issue. Of course you're allowed to have no respect for me either, but I'm glad you meant toward Kate. I hear what you're saying, I do. I used to watch the show in the "old" days and saw the very same things you did. Jon was hands-on, she was always bellowing at him, demeaning him, worried about the kids getting dirty, etc. I laughed at one episode where I noticed they were still wearing bibs at the age of five! I watched because the kids were cute and I think my daughter was little then and it made me feel a little better about my own chaos perhaps. I stopped watching the show when they announced their split, because it just... I don't know, showcased how it was all about money and not about what the show started out being. Frankly I blame TLC for a lot of this insanity. I think those kids should be OUT of the public eye and they should be much more than a paycheck. I worry about them. Given when i stopped watching regularly I didn't see some of the episodes you reference - Sarah Palin is to me what Kate is to you, so it would have been physically painful for me to have watched that one.

Honestly, I don't think there's anything great about Kate. At all. I have resisted writing about her in the past because I really don't like much about her, but I tried it out this past week or so as I'm working on expanding the breadth of celebrity/entertainment topics I write about, and people are just anxious to read about her. I try to write positive pieces in general because in other topics I've covered, I've watched a lot of rude, harsh, inaccurate things written about people who really hadn't done anything wrong. I may get snarky about some in the public eye, but you're right, I've not written negative things on Kate.

You've given me plenty to think about and I do understand your points. I appreciate you taking the time to come back and leave this comment, it was helpful without being nasty to me. Yesterday was just a day for commenters being annoyed with me or the topics I covered - one was simply "Stacy Carey is an idiot..." I don't mind people disagreeing with my approach, correcting me, or giving me other things to check into, it's just hard sometimes to understand where people are coming from without a bit more context. Your comment is helpful. Calling me simply an idiot without anything else isn't all that helpful.

That said, I'm always looking for new topics to cover - any suggestions for celebrity/entertainment/etc. where there are positive things to be said and you are anxious for more news? I am always open to trying out new ideas. I can't promise I won't write about Kate anymore, but I am very appreciative for your taking the time to give me a better understanding of your perspective and comments.
