The latest Aishwarya Rai baby delivery news is that the still-expecting mother has inspired bookies and bettors. Recently, wagers have been placed on when Rai's child will be born, among other propositions.
The Aishwarya baby birth continues to be shrouded in mystery, as the media has agreed to certain rules on covering the delivery. However, that hasn't stopped people from trying to profit. A news report from Daily Bhaskar notes that bookies turned there is heavy speculation in Raipur's capital city of Chhattisgarh regarding Rai's delivery. Some were guessing whether or not the baby would be official born on 11/11/11 and if it would happen at exactly 11:11 for the time Friday. Also being speculated was the number of children Aishwarya would give birth to.
The reports note that bets were not only taken in Raipur but also in other cities including Durg, Jagdalpur, and Rajnandgaon. Apparently as much as Rs 2 crore had been wagered Thursday night on Aishwarya's potential delivery time and day. In American dollars, 2 crore amounts to several million rupees (or over $400,000 US), which is quite a hefty amount to put down on when someone will give birth.
It's amazing to hear that wagers would go forth on something like this. Imagine how much money could have been made to guess how long Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries would be married for? Or whether or not Justin Bieber is the father of Mariah Yeater's baby? While betting is not legal in the United States, except for in Las Vegas, it seems like sports should be the major focus of bets, not when a baby's birth will be given. After all, the focus should be on celebrating the mother's new bundle of joy, not profiting from it!
