Heavy D's autopsy's completed, but the coroner will not release the results until the toxicology test comes back, which could take up to six weeks. The rapper complained of trouble breathing and collapsed in an exterior hallway outside his condo after returning home from a shopping trip on Tuesday.
When the paramedics arrived, Heavy D was conscious and still breathing, but he died just 90 minutes later at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in LA. He saw a doctor the day before his death, complaining of flu-like symptoms.
The Hip Hop celebrity took medication, prescribed for him before his death, and this is partly the reason the coroner wants to wait before releasing a report of his death.
According to the New York Daily News, the coroner wants to see what the levels of his medication were first before concluding a cause of death for Heavy D. He was 44 years old and weighed 344 lbs. when he died.
The Hip Hop celebrity's father and cousin report that he "had a touch of pneumonia" when he died and they suggested that Heavy D caught this while traveling, as he just got back from England.
Born in Jamaica, Heavy D grew up in Mount Vernon, New York, this is where his funeral, wake and public viewing will be held this week. On Thursday November 17th, there's a public viewing at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon from noon until 7 p.m., followed by a wake at 8 p.m.
Heavy D's funeral is the following day at the same church, but the funeral is private and by invitation only. The Wayans brothers, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Mary J. Blige are among the invited guests to the private funeral on Friday.
