Kim Kardashian and her family aren't going to be kicked off E! anytime soon, even though the network is about to undergo a major makeover. Instead they could get up to four new shows.
Bonnie Hammer, the new cable entertainment chair of NBCUniversal, is going to try to revamp E!'s image to make the network "a smarter and more aspirational destination." She wants to add more scripted programming to the schedule while making E! less Hollywood-centric. This might sound hopeful to those that were hoping that the Kardashian boycott would gain steam, but of course the network's profitable family franchise is not going to be cut.
Instead Hammer is actually hoping to add up to four more Kardashian shows to the schedule. But what could these spinoffs possibly focus on?
Well, Rob Kardashian got more of a following than he's ever had before on "Dancing with the Stars," so perhaps he'll get a show of his own. Kim Kardashian could get a new series about trying to get back into the dating game, and of course Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner could get their own shows.
But while the Kardashians continue their TV takeover, it seems that some other E! reality show stars didn't fare quite as well—according to the Hollywood Reporter, here's one of Hammer's comments about revamping E!: "We'll eventually get rid of the more Playboy trashy element." So does this mean that Playboy gal Kendra Wilkinson's show is donezo? Ratings for her reality series have continued to go down over the years, so it wouldn't be surprising if she doesn't get to come back. This could also mean trouble for Holly Madison's show Holly's World.
So is it fair that sex tape star Kim Kardashian's spot on a revamped E! is safe while the network's Playboy gals could get cut? It might not seem fair, but it's all about the ratings—Kim and her family simply pull in more viewers and get more publicity.
So are you looking forward to the new E!, even if it isn't Kardashian-free?
