Kim Kardashian and her family's tradition of taking a group photo to front their annual Christmas cards didn't just begin after the "klan" skyrocketed to fame and popularity as reality TV show stars. Rather, the ritual started long before Kim's divorce drama with Kris Humphries, Kourtney's bumpy relationship with Scott Disick (and consequent baby bumps!) and Khloe's marriage to Lamar Odom. They've been posing for years before Keeping Up with the Kardashians. From silly to serious, garish to glamorous and sometimes just plain hilarious, the family has spread quite the Noel statements.
Khloe Kardashian recently blogged about her favorite holiday card moments and Daily Mail has pictures of all the best picks. One of the top shots on her list? A hilarious Harley Davidson-themed shoot that has Bruce Jenner revving it up on a motorcycle and the rest of the fam (including Kris Jenner with a bowl-cut, a cute Rob and a young, but still remarkably sultry Kim Kardashian) in matching leather and denim. Talk about a '90s heyday!
And there are plenty more doozies in the Christmas card bunch. As Khloe said, "Kris Jenner has always been one to go ALL OUT. My sisters and brothers and I used to get annoyed by her holiday enthusiasm when we were younger, but now I'm so glad we have these silly cards and memories to look back on!" More over-the-top themes included an ode to Santa Claus-clad Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more coordinating outfits in the form of white dress shirts, white pants and plaid ties (on the girls and the guys!).
But as time goes by and fame takes hold, there is a marked shift in the styling of the photo shoots. The look goes from silly, lighthearted and fun to more serious and near sexy odes to the season. A prime example is the very festive but very vampy "ladies in red" shot that has all the Kardashian gals, including Kylie and Kendall Jenner, donning red gowns. The star of this show is unsurprisingly Kim Kardashian who seductively stares into the camera in her strapless, crimson gown.
A slightly less staged group photo came two years ago, as the pic was taken at Khloe and Lamar's wedding and even featured a so-called honorary member of the family, Ryan Seacrest, and a very pregnant Kourtney. Of course, this year's Christmas card has been blasted as way too staged, contrived and cold to bring any good cheer. Indeed, icy stares from a tuxedo-clad Kim and the rest of her family definitely deliver a bit of a chill.
The holiday card that seems most meaningful is one that straddles the line between silly and sophisticated with a relatively glam black-and-white group photo on the outside, followed by a fun version of the same shot on the inside, this time with everyone laughing and blowing kisses. The message isn't bad either: "Life is not measured by how many breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. May you be blessed with many breath-taking moments."
