Debra Messing is reportedly dating her SMASH costar Will Chase. So did her feelings for him lead to the end of her marriage?
One week ago the news broke that Debra was divorcing her husband of 11 years, Daniel Zelman. So it does seem a little suspicious that Debra has been reportedly dating her SMASH costar for about six weeks.
Debra and Daniel revealed that they actually separated earlier this year, so it's possible that the actress made the decision to leave her husband because something was already going on with her costar.
Of course no one wants to imagine that the spunky, beloved redhead from Will and Grace would ever cheat on her husband, and it's very likely that she did not—Debra Messing could have split from Daniel Zelman before acting on her feelings for Will Chase. If this is the case, at least she decided to break things off instead of living a lie or having an affair. The couple did say that their decision was mutual, and they're keeping things amicable for the sake of their 7-year-old son Roman. So the lack of bitterness seems to signify that nothing fishy went on before the split.
Whatever the case, Debra Messing is stepping into messy territory by dating a costar. SMASH is just about to hit the air, and there's no telling how long it will last. If she and Will Chase ever break up, it could create quite a bit of tension on the set of the show.
But at least this divorce/dating story is getting the musical a bit of free publicity. It also stars American Idol alum Katherine McPhee as one of the Broadway stars competing for the role of Marilyn Monroe in a musical based on the actress' life and Anjelica Huston as the musical's producer. Messing stars as a songwriter and the musical's cowriter. Interestingly enough, Debra's character is a married woman, while Will Chase plays a man from her character's past.
So do you think Debra Messing was messing around before her breakup went down, or is Chase just her post-split rebound?
