Katy Perry and Russell Brand shocked friends as well as fans by their (his?) totally unexpected announcement on December 30 that they were getting a divorce, after just over a year of marriage. These two like to keep everyone guessing, but "I was shocked when I found out," a friend of the couple said in an interview. "I was really surprised that Russell filed for divorce so quickly - especially at Christmas time."
Well, if both parties are agreed, then Christmas time is no worse than any other time, and the New Year is a good chance for a fresh start. But was Katy Perry just as shocked? Most rumors seem to agree that she was a full participant in the decision.
The source goes on: "I thought they would 
be together for a long time. Maybe not forever - but definitely not just 14 months." Why? Two reasons. "They were always laughing," the first friend says. "They were very affectionate, always holding hands. They seemed like they were really in love."
Second reason? Another source reports: "(Katy Perry and Russell Brand) both took marriage very seriously." No one believed their marriage was a game or a publicity stunt. They did things together, spent time together. "These aren't people who give up!" the second source dishes.
But times change and people move on. Who knows what 2012 will bring? Stay tuned.
